Questions About Your Consultations
What is a consultation?
A homeopathic consultation is a way of gathering information and is an integral part of the therapeutic process. Through careful listening and exploration, we look at how health is experienced as a whole — including physical symptoms, emotional and relational patterns, sensitivities, sleep and digestion, and constitutional tendencies that may run in families. This wider context allows treatment, including the selection of remedies, to be shaped in a way that is personal, coherent, and responsive.
Alongside current symptoms, we consider constitutional tendencies, family health patterns, and how life experiences may have shaped health over time. There is time and space to describe the experience fully, beginning from when changes in health were first noticed.
The aim is always to build a clear, nuanced picture of the person as a whole, rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation.
Consultations take place in a confidential and supportive environment, offering space to speak openly, reflect, and be met without judgment.
After the appointment, I take time to reflect carefully on what has emerged, reviewing the information in depth before selecting a remedy and outlining the next steps of treatment. Remedies are chosen to work over a number of weeks, supporting the body’s own capacity to begin a healing response. A follow-up appointment is scheduled after 4–5 weeks to review progress and make the appropriate next prescription.
For parents, guardians, and those who are pregnant
Children’s consultations follow the same thorough approach, with the conversation shaped around your child’s stage of development. For infants and younger children, most of the information is gathered through you — your observations, your instincts, and the story of your child’s health from the earliest days. Older children are welcome to speak for themselves, at their own pace and comfort.
I also see women during pregnancy. Homeopathic treatment in pregnancy is approached with particular care, attending to the mother’s health, wellbeing, and the changes that pregnancy brings.
What happens after I book the First Appointment?
Prior to the initial consultation, I will send you a New Patient Health Form. This helps me learn a little about your medical history in advance.
Some people find forms difficult or tiring to complete, and that’s completely okay — it’s not compulsory, but simply a helpful starting point if you’re able to do it.
When a consultation is booked for a child, parents or carers complete the form on their behalf.
The first appointment lasts around 90 minutes.
For adults, this time is used to explore current health concerns in detail. Because people experience illness in very individual ways, understanding how symptoms affect you is just as important as identifying the symptoms themselves.
For children, the consultation is shaped differently. Much of the information is gathered through conversation with parents or carers, alongside observation of the child through play and engagement. We explore your child’s physical symptoms, temperament, development, sensitivities, sleep, appetite, emotional responses, and how they engage with their environment. Family context and relevant medical history are also taken into account.
In both adult and child consultations, there is time and space to describe the experience fully, beginning from when changes in health were first noticed.
The aim is always to build a clear, nuanced picture of the person as a whole, rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation.
After the consultation
Following the appointment, I take time to carefully analyse the information shared and select the most appropriate homeopathic remedy. Remedies are chosen to work over a number of weeks, supporting the body’s own capacity to begin a healing response.
Remedies and practicalities
You will be prescribed a remedy with clear instructions. This can either be collected locally, sent to you by post, or — depending on where you live — sourced from a pharmacy near you. I will guide you through the process so you know exactly what to do.
Follow-up Appointments
These are usually scheduled every 4–6 weeks in the beginning and then every 2–4 months until your condition is completely resolved. After this time, you are welcome to schedule in with me whenever a need arises.
Follow-up appointments
A remedy needs time to act. This is especially true in chronic conditions that have developed over many years, where the disturbance has become woven into the whole pattern of the person — their body, their experience, and the way they meet life.
After a remedy is given, there is often a period of response. This may be quiet and gradual, or at times more noticeable. Symptoms may shift, old symptoms may reappear, or there may be a temporary intensification before improvement begins. These changes are part of how the system reorganises itself, and they are observed carefully rather than interrupted.
There is no fixed timeframe for how long a remedy will act. A well-matched remedy may continue to work for weeks, months, or longer. As long as there is movement in the direction of cure — even if incomplete — the remedy is left to act without interference.
Follow-up appointments are arranged to observe and understand this process. In the early stages, these are usually scheduled every 4–6 weeks, though this may vary depending on how your system is responding. Over time, as stability develops, appointments are spaced further apart.
These sessions are more focused and reflective, attending closely to changes in your overall state — energy, mood, sleep, and general well-being — as well as the particular symptoms you may be experiencing.
At times, I may ask you to check in briefly between appointments, especially in the early stages, so that I can understand how the remedy is unfolding. You are also welcome to reach out if you experience a reaction you are unsure about. Often, the most helpful approach is simply to observe and allow the process to continue, but guidance is always available if needed.
For parents and guardians, the follow-up process works in the same way. It is your observations — how your child is sleeping, eating, playing, and responding to the world around them — that guide the work. You are the most important witness to your child’s progress, and that close attention is an invaluable part of the process.
My responsibility is safety and steadiness — not miracles. This means working with care, allowing each stage of the process to unfold in its own time, and intervening only when it is truly needed.
Further support, including guidance on observing changes and tracking your responses, is available through the Useful Resources page.
Continuity of Care Programme
Some conditions ask for more than a single consultation, or even a handful of appointments. They ask for time — to be understood in their full complexity, to be followed through their changes, and to be met with steady, unhurried attention over months rather than weeks.
The Continuity of Care Programme is designed for exactly this. It is for those who know that real change will take sustained work, and who want the security of knowing that support is in place for the year ahead.
The programme includes one 90-minute initial consultation and ten follow-up appointments of approximately 60 minutes each, available over a 12-month period. Follow-up appointments are arranged flexibly as we go, responding to the pace and needs of your particular process.
It is particularly well-suited to chronic or long-standing conditions, complex or layered presentations, emotional and psychological distress, and situations where health has been slowly shifting over many years.
What this offers
Continuity changes the quality of the work. With a clear arc across the year, we can move with greater intention — following the thread of your case, observing how your system responds across different seasons and circumstances, and refining the work as it deepens.
There is a trajectory, a containment, and a sense of shared purpose that a series of standalone appointments cannot quite offer.
As a programme participant, you also benefit from a reduced overall fee compared to booking appointments individually, and priority access to my schedule throughout the year.
How long does the treatment take?
The length of care varies from person to person. It depends on the nature of what you are experiencing, how long it has been present, and the wider context in which it has taken shape and continues to be held.
At each follow-up, we reflect on your progress together and consider what is needed. At times, this may involve simply allowing the process to continue without interference. In other cases, a further prescription or adjustment may be needed as your symptom picture becomes clearer.
In longer-standing or chronic conditions, change often unfolds gradually. Many people begin to notice shifts in energy, resilience, and overall sense of well-being before their main symptoms fully resolve. These early changes are meaningful and are taken into account when considering the direction of cure.
In more acute situations, where symptoms are recent and short-lived, the response is often quicker, sometimes within days. Even here, care is taken to observe the direction of change and to support the system without unnecessary intervention.

How to take the remedies
Remedies are usually taken as tablets, globules, drops, or powders. They are best taken when the mouth is clean, ideally at least 20 minutes after eating. The remedy is placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve gently.
They may also be dissolved in a small amount of fresh water and taken in sips, particularly where a gentler or more gradual action is preferred.
At times, remedies are given in liquid form to be taken regularly with light shaking (succussion) before each dose. This helps to keep the remedy active and responsive as the process unfolds. A short demonstration is available here: Succussion
Where possible, it helps to avoid eating or drinking (other than water) for around 20–30 minutes before and after taking the remedy. The aim is simply to allow the remedy to be received clearly, without interference from strong tastes such as food, smoke, toothpaste, or mouthwash.
Here is a short video clip on how to take your remedy.
For babies, tablets or globules can be crushed between two spoons or dissolved in a small amount of water before being given. If breastfeeding, the mother may take the remedy, allowing its effects to be shared gently through the milk.

Homeopathic Supervision
I offer supervision for homeopaths seeking a reflective and supportive space to deepen their practice.
Supervision is not only a place to discuss cases, but an opportunity to think more broadly about how we work — how we listen, how we understand what is unfolding in a case, and how we make decisions in the face of uncertainty.
Our sessions may include:
• In-depth exploration of cases
• Support with remedy selection and clinical reasoning
• Reflecting on challenges or areas of uncertainty in practice
• Considering the wider context of the patient, including emotional, relational, and systemic factors
• Exploring the practitioner’s own responses within the consultation
My approach to supervision is grounded in over three decades of clinical experience, alongside a background in psychology, mental health, and community-based work. I draw on a range of perspectives, including classical homeopathy, reflective practice, and integrative approaches to health and healing.
Supervision offers a space to pause, reflect, and work with greater clarity and confidence — not only in relation to individual cases, but in how you are developing as a practitioner.
Who this is for?
Supervision is open to qualified homeopaths and those in training.
It may be particularly helpful if you are:
• Looking for support with complex or challenging cases
• Wanting to deepen your clinical understanding and confidence
• Navigating uncertainty or decision-making in practice
• Interested in a more reflective, integrative approach to homeopathy
Format
Sessions are one hour and take place online.
